Mind Your Manners! Monsters & Memories Updates Its Play Nice Policy

The Herald’s Dispatch | November 2026

Official policy changes announced October 22, 2026

Hear ye, adventurers of Eth-ur! The rules of civilized adventuring have received another examination, and the results may affect everyone from humble herb gatherers to seasoned dungeon veterans.

On October 22, GM_Trent announced several updates to the official Monsters & Memories Play Nice Policy, addressing camp priority, harvesting, character names, exploits, contested encounters, and PvP-related conduct.

The Wayfarer’s Gazette has reviewed the announcement and offers the following summary for readers who prefer their important notices without an accompanying mountain of official paperwork.

Camps, Claims, and Common Courtesy

Several changes concern how adventurers establish and maintain priority at camps.

The previous AFK standard involving two spawn cycles has been replaced with a ten-minute rule. Players who suspect someone is AFK are instructed to send that person a tell and wait ten minutes.

The developers have also clarified that pursuing fleeing enemies does not automatically mean abandoning a camp, provided the player is continuing to interact with that camp.

Groups unable to clear an entire camp are expected to leave the enemies they cannot handle available to others.

Following a server or zone outage, groups may retain camp priority, but must re-establish themselves within five minutes.

A Word to Gatherers

Mining and herb nodes remain free-for-all resources.

The updated language explicitly states that these nodes cannot be owned, camped, or stolen.

In other words, announcing that a particularly attractive patch of herbs belongs to your great-grandfather’s estate will not establish a legal claim.

Names, Titles, and Questionable Nobility

The updated naming policy addresses character names that confer titles, including examples such as King, Guard, Knight, and Maker.

Players should review the official wording before selecting a name that might imply an authority or title their character does not possess.

The Gazette has received no indication that declaring oneself Supreme Emperor of the Mushroom Patch offers an exemption.

Exploits and Unintended Advantages

The developers have clarified their position on exploiting unintended game behavior.

The revised policy explicitly identifies pathing and safespotting as examples of mechanics that must not be exploited for advantage. Players who encounter something that appears not to work as intended are instructed to report it rather than continue using it.

The announcement also clarifies that the development team does not moderate disputes involving perceived ninja looting or the transfer of NODROP items between characters.

Competing for Camps

Kill stealing and camp stealing now have explicit definitions in the policy.

Kill stealing concerns engaging an enemy already engaged by another player in a manner that causes that player to lose loot rights. Engagement includes more than direct damage and may involve debuffs, crowd control, or other actions.

Camp stealing concerns engaging enemies belonging to an established, claimed camp.

Adventurers are encouraged to read these definitions carefully before deciding that a disagreement over an enemy is merely an unfortunate misunderstanding.

PvP Immunity Is Not Permission to Disrupt

The PvP policy has also been clarified.

Characters immune to PvP because they are below the minimum eligible level, or outside the level range in which they can be attacked, are still prohibited from using that immunity to disrupt other players through activities such as training or kill stealing.

Such conduct may result in action against the offending account.

Read the Official Announcement

These changes are important enough that every adventurer should review the complete announcement rather than rely exclusively on a newspaper summary.

The Wayfarer’s Gazette is an independent community publication. This report summarizes the developers’ announcement and does not replace the official Play Nice Policy.

Editorial Note: Nynkies Nimblefingers has instructed the Gazette staff to observe all applicable rules of civilized conduct. When asked whether this instruction extended to the anonymous correspondent responsible for publishing his personal misadventures, the Editor-in-Chief abruptly ended the interview.
